AI and the Church: Faithful Leadership in a Rapidly Changing World

AI isn’t coming; it’s already here, reshaping how organizations communicate, fundraise, and make decisions. That’s why we’ve partnered with Matt Shandera of Gamaliel.ai, who helps church and mission leaders engage AI faithfully in a rapidly changing world. Together, we want to help Canadian pastors and leaders respond with wisdom in this moment.

In this 90-minute virtual training, you will learn how to:

Identify ways that AI can be used to strengthen your ministry impact.

Develop a thoughtful approach to AI use within your organization.

Focus on the strengths your team brings that AI cannot replace.

About Our Feature Speaker

Matt Shandera helps church and pastoral leaders discern a world being reshaped by AI and rapid technological change. He is a founding team member at Gamaliel.ai, building Biblical AI tools without compromising theological integrity. His background spans nonprofit and church leadership, including roles at CURE International and LCBC Church, as well as enterprise software leadership at New Relic and Confluent, where he led hands-on AI implementation in high-growth global companies.

Blending pastoral insight with deep technology experience, Matt brings a thoughtful, grounded voice to one of the most consequential shifts of our time.

Training Agenda

First 45-Minutes: Presentation on Engaging AI Thoughtfully

AI isn’t a future problem. It’s a present reality — already reshaping how people learn, make decisions, find community, and ask questions of meaning and purpose. For leaders in ministry & community alike, the question is no longer whether to engage it. It’s whether to engage it thoughtfully.

In this presentation, Matt Shandera — a former pastor, nonprofit leader, and enterprise technology veteran who now builds AI tools specifically for biblical and ministry contexts — helps leaders develop a grounded, practical framework for navigating AI with both clarity and conviction.

Drawing on experience implementing AI systems at a global scale and leading congregations through seasons of significant change, Matt offers a perspective that is neither breathlessly optimistic nor reflexively fearful.

Second 45-Minutes: Open Questions, Real Answers

Following his presentation, Matt will be joined by Lois Warren for a Q&A dedicated to answering your questions. We will open the floor for the topics that matter most to your context — whether that’s practical application in ministry settings, theological guardrails for AI engagement, workforce and staffing implications, or the broader societal questions leaders are fielding from their congregations and communities.

Participants are invited to submit questions in advance. Nothing is off the table. Submit your questions ahead of the session using this form.
